The Decatur Police Department is investigating robberies at two gas stations on 13th Street that happened over the weekend.
According to a statement on the department’s Facebook page, on Saturday, November 25, in the late evening hours, a male suspect entered JJ’s Gas Station located in the 900 block of N. 13th St. demanding money from the staff. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Officers immediately responded to the area but did not locate anyone matching the description of the suspect.
Then on Sunday, November 26, in the evening hours, a male suspect entered McClure’s Gas Station located in the 1300 block of S. 13th St. demanding money from the staff. The suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Officers immediately responded to the area but did not locate anyone matching the description of the suspect.
Based on the descriptions given by witnesses at both locations, investigators believe the suspect in both robberies is the same person. Video recordings from both locations support this belief. At this time, investigators believe this suspect is in custody at a neighboring law enforcement facility for similar related crimes in that jurisdiction.
These investigations are still active and ongoing, therefore no further information will be released at this time. The Decatur Police Department does not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public due to these incidents.
