Facing one of the top teams in the state of Indiana, the Bellmont Braves turned in a second consecutive 155 team score, but it was not enough as the Leo Lions posted an exception, school record-breaking total of just 139 strokes on the back nine holes at Cross Creek Wednesday evening.
“You can’t play defense in golf, so kudos to Leo,” said Bellmont assistant Mike Macke. “We are happy with our score and how the boys played.
It was the second night in a row that Leo got a 32 and a 34 from their top two players, Justin Hicks and Wes Oplinger.
“They ended up throwing out a 39,” noted Macke. “That’s pretty impressive.”

Winston Brown led the Braves with an even-par 36, his fifth consecutive round of being at par or under.
Owen Minnick returned from an off night (40 on Tuesday) to shoot par, as well.

Bryce Rickord continued his steady play with a 41.
“If he continue to stay in that 38-42 range for us, he will give us the solid third score we need to win most nights.”
The two teams will play again in the Leo Invite Saturday at Noble Hawk.
“We look to put in a good 18-hole tournament round,” said Macke. “We want to keep up this improvement we have shown.”
The Braves junior varsity team will host Adams Central’s varsity Thursday on the Majorki at Cross Creek.
