{"id":9621,"date":"2023-11-16T04:57:39","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T09:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=9621"},"modified":"2023-11-18T15:20:08","modified_gmt":"2023-11-18T20:20:08","slug":"deteriorating-decatur-home-a-major-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/16\/deteriorating-decatur-home-a-major-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"Deteriorating Decatur home a major problem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A deteriorating home in Decatur is becoming a major problem for the city, which may wind up being \u201cstuck\u201d with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At a recent meeting of the city&#8217;s board of works and safety, Building\/Zoning Superintendent Curt Witte said his department \u2013 which oversees code enforcement \u2013 was negotiating with the owner to get something done about the unoccupied home at 113 N, Eighth St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before anything was resolved, however, the property was purchased by CONNEX, Inc., a company in Huntsville, Alabama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company claims it bought the home sight-unseen, had no idea of its condition, and now says it can&#8217;t afford to demolish it.<br>\u201cI&#8217;m afraid we&#8217;re gonna to get stuck with it,\u201d Witte told the board. \u201cIt&#8217;s going to be condemned soon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The structure is so close to an adjacent home that it may be a threat to that other building.
