Although the Five Points Improvement Project in Decatur has been pushed back to at least early 2025 by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), paperwork continues to move forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At its latest meeting, city council approved the signing of a construction project with INDOT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contract is required by INDOT, which has total control over the project, including control of the federal dollars being used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will move us forward,\u201d City Attorney Anne Razo said at the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis will be the last step \u2026 well, one of the last steps,\u201d added a smiling Jeremy Gilbert, the city’s operations manager, after reconsidering his initial statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gilbert said in early September that many INDOT projects that had gone out for bid had ranged up to 40% higher than estimated due to inflation and the large number of projects underway at that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Five Points project is 80% federal and 20% city funded,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo with all this being said, our bid date has been pushed out a couple times over the last couple years due to funding,\u201d Gilbert explained. \u201cSo right now we are scheduled to go to bid in June of 2025.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is pegged to cost a total of $3,057.690. The feds are putting $2,442,352 into the effort while Decatur\u2019s 20% share amounts to $610,338.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
