{"id":9254,"date":"2023-11-07T18:13:32","date_gmt":"2023-11-07T23:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=9254"},"modified":"2023-11-07T19:44:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T00:44:29","slug":"z-land-blog-municipal-election-night-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/11\/07\/z-land-blog-municipal-election-night-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Z-Land Blog: Municipal Election Night 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We have all your coverage of the election results for elections in the city of Decatur, along with the Town of Monroe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few numbers for reference from the 2019 election: 3304 ballots were cast in that election in Adams County. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 2023 election, just 1802 votes were cast, although it should be noted that there was an election in Berne in 2019, but none in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Decatur City Council At-Large <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Matt Dyer (R) defeated Jennifer Hitchcock (D) by a 970 to 654 margin. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the absentee vote, Dyer held a 371 to 313 lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After an update at 7:13 by election officials, Dyer led by a 552-423 margin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 7:19 p.m., Dyer&#8217;s lead increased to 558-423.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election-684x1024.jpg?resize=215%2C322\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9284\" width=\"215\" height=\"322\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?resize=684%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 684w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?resize=768%2C1151&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?resize=1025%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1025w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?resize=1024%2C1534&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?w=1367&amp;ssl=1 1367w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/dyer-election.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Dyer<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dyer received over $15,000 in campaign contributions this year, with much of the money since the primary election coming from individuals donating less than $500 apiece. Hitchcock reported over $7000 in contributions in 2023 to her campaign. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When Dyer ran unopposed in 2019, he received 1589 votes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Decatur City Council District 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Jenny Bowers-Shultz (D) defeated Gina Melcher (R), 225 to 192. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the absentee voting, Bowers-Shultz held a 99-83 lead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After an update at 7:13 p.m. by election officials, Bowers-Shultz led by a slim 137-118 margin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bowers-Shultz took in just over $3000 for her campaign, compared to $6000 by Melcher. Melcher defeated incumbent Wylie Sirk in May.
