{"id":8613,"date":"2023-10-21T20:46:04","date_gmt":"2023-10-22T00:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=8613"},"modified":"2023-10-21T20:45:56","modified_gmt":"2023-10-22T00:45:56","slug":"joan-hoffman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/21\/joan-hoffman\/","title":{"rendered":"Joan Hoffman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Joan Hoffman, 90, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at her residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was born on November 29, 1932 in Decatur, Indiana to the late Martin H. Bultemeier and the late Ida (Reiter) Bultemeier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>  <br>Joan was united in marriage to Donald E. Hoffman on April 8, 1951 at Camp Stewart, Georgia, and he preceded her in death on January 19, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"166\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/img_7878-1-166x300.jpg?resize=166%2C300\" class=\"wp-image-8612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/img_7878-1.jpg?resize=166%2C300&amp;ssl=1 166w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/img_7878-1.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Joan was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Flatrock), where she served the Lord by singing in the choir, volunteering in the Altar Guild, and attending Bible Study. &nbsp;She was also an original member of the Decatur Lutheran Chorale, and the Lutheran Women\u2019s Missionary League (LWML).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joan graduated from Monmouth High School in 1950, where she was a cheerleader and the valedictorian of her class. &nbsp;She then went on to be a bookkeeper for 18 years at East Allen County School System. &nbsp;She volunteered in the library at St. John Lutheran School, Flatrock, and was also a longtime volunteer at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. &nbsp;Joan also worked at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Homes for several years until July 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joan loved to gather with her family to bake cookies, play cards and games. &nbsp;She enjoyed reading books, doing needlework, and playing the piano. &nbsp;Joan could, when the opportunity presented itself, speak fluent German. &nbsp;She and Don loved to travel. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Survivors include her son, Ronald W. (Gail) Hoffman of Edinburgh, Indiana; son, James K. (JoAnne) Hoffman of Hoagland, Indiana; son, Matthew P. Hoffman of Greenfield, Indiana; sister, Betty Doctor of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; six grandchildren, Chris Hoffman, Beth Hoffman, Drew Hoffman, Claire (Hoffman) Roettgen, Reid Hoffman, and Connor Hoffman; and one great grandson, Owen Johnson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her twin sons, Timothy and Thomas Hoffman in 1953; her daughter, Beth Anne Hoffman on March 31, 1971; her brother, Martin Bultemeier in 1970; and her sister, Carol Frosch on September 28, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Flatrock), Monroeville, with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery (Flatrock).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Family and friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24 at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preferred memorials can be given to the Beth Anne Hoffman Scholarship Fund through St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Flatrock), or St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Flatrock).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joan Hoffman, 90, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at her residence.
