{"id":8526,"date":"2023-10-20T13:41:52","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T17:41:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=8526"},"modified":"2023-10-20T13:41:54","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T17:41:54","slug":"will-the-us-reclaim-title-as-top-corn-exporter-from-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/20\/will-the-us-reclaim-title-as-top-corn-exporter-from-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"Will the US reclaim title as top corn exporter from Brazil?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By RHIANNON BRANCH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Brownfield Ag News Network<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazil overtook the title as the world\u2019s largest corn exporter in 2022-2023 but early projections indicate the US could reclaim the top spot this marketing year. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>University of Illinois research associate Joana Colussi tells Brownfield stronger soybean prices and the El Nino weather pattern have prompted Brazilian farmers to reduce corn acreage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at data from CONAB, Brazil\u2019s equivalent to the USDA, Colussi says, \u201cBrazilian corn exports are forecast at around 40 million tons, a 27% decrease from the record shipments of 52 million tons in the 2022-2023 market year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She says China sourced a lot of corn from Brazil last year, so a decrease in production could open the door for US farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mbbattorneys.com\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"533\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-1024x853.jpg?resize=640%2C533\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?resize=1024%2C853&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?resize=300%2C250&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C640&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1280&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C1707&amp;ssl=1 2048w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Web-Ad-scaled.jpg?w=1920&amp;ssl=1 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough Chinese interest in US corn has lowered in the past year, the lower projection of the Brazilian harvest and the greater supply of corn here in the United States will potentially allow plentiful US supplies to regain a share in global trade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USDA projects 2023-2024 Brazilian corn exports at 55 million metric tons down from 57 million in 2022-2023.
