If it feels too soon to start talking about basketball, you might not be from Indiana! While there are plenty of female athletes still competing in fall sports, the official start of basketball season still came Monday across the Hoosier State. Despite many local schools being on fall break, coaches across Z Land started their seasons with morning practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday’s opening practice for the Bellmont Braves featured a host of girls whose fall seasons ended just two days earlier. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Coach Andy Heim’s team showed their commitment to the upcoming season with a full practice that included all the girls from the soccer and cross country teams. Those girls transitioned from one sport to the next in under 48 hours. Volleyball players Hailey Cole and Kamryn Jarvis were spotted doing non-contact drills to avoid any chance of injury while the volleyball team’s season continues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For second-year head coach Kyle Roe at Adams Central, he will have to try to build on last year’ 7-16 record where his team showed signs of progression. The Jets figure to be more competitive in 2023-24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At WZBD, we are committed to covering girls basketball from mid-November all the way until the last local team has been eliminated in the state tournament in February. Heim’s journey as head coach began with just 21 wins in the first five years, including a winless season in 2013-14, but his teams have now won at least 17 games in seven consecutive seasons. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Fans of high school basketball can get their fill of coverage on Saturday mornings for our basketball coaches show throughout the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adams Central and head coach Kyle Roe will open the season with three consecutive road games before coming back to the Hangar, where they held their first practice Monday. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

We have a full slate of broadcasts this season on 92.7 FM including holiday tournaments and the ACAC tournament and we will be in our first year of incorporating Heritage into our main coverage area. As always, we will bring you full coverage of the girls basketball sectionals, as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
