Although the pickleball courts have been in use for some time, the new complex of athletic courts behind Riverside Center in Decatur was officially opened Saturday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former tennis courts were reconfigured to now provide six courts. That required removing the sand volleyball court which had been in existence of years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new sand volleyball court was constructed on the west side of the pickleball courts, and a shuffleboard court was also added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pavilion was built on the east side of the pickleball courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both city and county funds were used, and pickleball enthusiasts have been a key partner in the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Dan Rickord has praised the new setup behind Riverside Center as \u201ca great collaboration of many.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The courts will be open daily until 10 p.m. There is a button available to activate the lights on the courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
