{"id":7530,"date":"2023-10-03T09:02:09","date_gmt":"2023-10-03T13:02:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=7530"},"modified":"2023-10-03T09:02:12","modified_gmt":"2023-10-03T13:02:12","slug":"highland-games-special-event-set-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/10\/03\/highland-games-special-event-set-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Highland Games, special event set Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of Decatur&#8217;s most popular events, the annual Highland Games, will be held Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, a special event will be held prior to the games: a ribbon cutting to formally open the new pickleball, volleyball and shuffleball courts directly behind Riverside Center (story below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Decatur Chamber of Commerce&#8217;s Highland Games has grown in stature over the years. \u201cWe&#8217;ve had more athletes (for qualifying) than ever before,\u201d Chamber Executive Director Craig Coshow recently said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fifteen women and 15 men will compete in five events, with three age groups: 18-30, 31-45, and 46 &amp; over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The games will be held in Riverside Park, the open area across Jackson St. from Riverside Center. No admission is charged. Several food vendors will be on hand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the games, events and activities for youngsters will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It all begins at 11:30 a.m. with Jaime Macklin singing the National Anthem.
