Adams County elected officials are trying to figure out how best to spend tens of thousands of dollars from the federal government before that money expires…and it’s a common problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The money is from “ARPA,” the American relief plan that was designed to help bring the economy out of the doldrums following the Covid-19 pandemic. Much of the money from Congress is open-ended, meaning it has numerous possibilities on how it is to be spent by local units of government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Adams County Council and the Adams County Commissioners are looking at numerous ways to spend that money, but can’t seem to agree on how to do it just yet. Deadlines on spending that money are beginning to loom on the horizon. If not spent locally, the money will go back to federal government leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One thing discussed as a possibility locally is using much of that money to update county record keeping, like scanning paper documents that are hundreds of years old in some cases. However, which records, how to best conduct the scanning, and how much to spend on the program is still in question locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
