Decatur resident Kyle Lawson is serving in the military in Kenya right now and in his work with the surrounding community, he has felt compelled to act.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially unsure of what scale he wanted the project to be, Lawson has elected to appeal to the entire Decatur community. The Bellmont grad considered using the close-knit wrestling community in Adams County for his appeal, but much like his own wrestling career, Lawson never stops dreaming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat I am asking for is a collection of really simple items. These are things that everyone back home takes for granted, but you wouldn\u2019t believe how much they\u2019d mean to these people, people who are trying to make it in life just like I am.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawson and his fellow soldiers feel that the relationships built with people around their base in Kenya are one of the most meaningful parts of their tour. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Items sought for this noble endeavor include: clothing, shoes and simple school supplies like paper and pencils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decatur resident and Bellmont High School graduate Kyle Lawson is not only protecting the local community in Kenya near the Indian Ocean, but also seeking help from his hometown for those in need. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The plea from Lawson is simple: residents of Decatur and surrounding community are asked to consider bringing donations to the Bridge Community Church from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 17th and again on the 24th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through his connections back home, Lawson has also worked out a donation table for the Journey tribute band at the Madison Street Plaza, part of the Thursday concert series. The table will be located near the American Legion Post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the drive of items to be sent to Kenya, Lawson has also organized a fundraiser to pay for the considerable shipping costs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 17th at the Southwest Fire District Station (12912 Indianapolis Rd. in Yoder, IN) there will be a rappel tower set up by Ashley Johnson from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Donations to rappel will be used to cover the shipping costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawson is using his spare time when he is not on active duty or patrol to help local people in Kenya. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
