Movement toward finishing Decatur’s first dog park is continuing and officials now say they are hopeful of opening the park this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dog park is located at the site of the former Evergreen Assisted Living facility off Mercer Ave., a short distance southeast of Adams Memorial Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fencing has been up for some time and painting of existing lights has been completed. Trees were recently planted (see photo), officials said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, picnic tables, benches, and dog waste systems have been ordered or obtained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe guys (city employees) have been working a lot out there; it’s getting close (to being done),\u201d Operations Manager Jeremy Gilbert told city council at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials also explained that a gate lock system has been ordered and should be installed within the next few weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For an as-yet-undetermined fee, a person will receive a key to enter the fenced-in area after providing proof that his\/her dog has all proper vaccinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
