Adams Central opened their season Friday night at Rick Minnich Field playing host to Garrett, and the Jets broke away late to defeat the Railroaders 42-8. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s normal for game one,” said AC head coach Michael Mosser of the relatively slow start (for Adams Central standards). “We had some injuries and some guys who were inexperienced in a varsity atmosphere, so it was hard for us to get going. Garrett, had a stubborn, physical defense and it took us a while. Their DBs are good, good and we struggled initially. We got more efficient in the second half and our team played really good defense throughout.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually we settled down and were able to get things going. Later on in the year when some of those guys return (from injury), we will have some #2s who have some experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jets took their first possession down the field and score on a 7-yard run by Keegan Bluhm with 8:50 to go in the quarter, with the point after successful by Trevor Currie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The football gods could not have dreamed up a better setting for the opening week of high school football, especially in the small town of Monroe, where time seemed to stop everywhere in the center of the county except for at Rick Minnich Field.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The game turned into more of a defensive battle for the rest of the half, when AC finally broke through the end zone with just over a minute remaining, as Jack Hamilton connected with Ryan Tester for 21 yards, and the PAT good by Currie, setting the score at 14-0 at the halftime break. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jets threw on the afterburners coming out of the locker room, scoring three times in the third quarter. On the opening drive, Bluhm ran it in from 21 yards out, taking just under two minutes off the clock. However, the PAT try was unsuccessful after a high snap, and the ensuing scramble failed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bluhm scored again with 4:48 remaining on a two-yard run, and also converted the two-point conversion. After a Garrett 3 and out, the Jets scored again, this time from Hamilton, as he scrambled on a keeper and scored from 45 yards out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the Currie conversion, the game went to a running clock, and the Jets scored one more time in the 4th as Hamilton found Currie all alone in the end zone connecting on the 16 yard strike, and Currie hit the PAT. Garrett scored late in the game to prevent the shutout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jack Hamilton finished 7-8 passing for 94 yards and two touchdowns and one interception, and also rushed 15 times for 109 yards and a TD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
