One of Decatur’s most popular events is on tap (literally!) this weekend: the Dekatur Germanfest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Decatur Chamber of Commerce and Oakwood Mutual will host the annual event from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday on the Madison St. Plaza, featuring German beer, German food and The Franz Klaber Orchestra \u2013 the Klaberheads (photo) \u2013 a 13-piece band from Hamilton, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No admission will be charged for what is labeled as a family-friendly event. Entrance to the beer garden, however, will require a $5 charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festivities will officially kick off at 6 p.m. with Mayor Dan Rickord tapping the official wooden keg from Bavaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West End restaurant of Decatur will be providing food for this year’s event, offering bratwurst, schnitzel, hot German potato salad, cooked cabbage, pretzel sticks, German chocolate cake, and drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six German beers will be available in the biergarten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A stein holding contest will return this year, with divisions for both men and women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Merchandise, including alpine hats, hat pins, beer mugs and pitchers will be sold during the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
