Jay County swept the Bellmont Braves in track and field Thursday as the spring season officially got underway for both the boys and girls teams on a chilly night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a really young team,\u201d commented Bellmont head coach Dave Hakes after Thursday\u2019s meet. \u201cThey all did a great job last night and they\u2019re really starting to come together as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellmont picked up victories in the boys meet with Trevor Smith in both sprints, while Elijah Obringer started off his senior season with an easy victory in the 3200. Ian Webb was narrowly beaten in the 1600, losing to Jay County freshman Joseph Boggs by .06 seconds.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrevor had a great night,\u201d added coach Dave Hakes. \u201cWinning both events is a great way to start the season.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Patriots swept all the relays and the field events with monster performances by Joe Junk in the throwing events and Isaac Kunkler in the high jump and long jump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hakes also noted the PR performance of thrower Alex Schirack. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a big night for Schirack with his PR of 37-05.5. He went on to throw a PR in the discus, too, and took third.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
