The Decatur Board of Works and Safety has given the city’s building and zoning department the go-ahead to clean up a property owned by a company in South Carolina which continues to ignore city demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The home, at 516 Niblick St., is owned by Fixed Pads Holdings of Lexington, SC, department superintendent Curt Witte told the board at its recent meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The property has \u201cgone through several owners,\u201d he said. The latest owner had taken out some city permits and as of March a considerable amount of work had been done on the inside of the building \u2013 but without any required city inspections. So a stop-work order was issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little has been done since then \u2013 although the grass was mowed and a lawn mower was sitting out front (see photo) in a recent check \u2013 and several phone calls with Fixed Pads have yielded no results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holes in the structure probably means \u201cbirds are flying in there,\u201d Witte noted. A large pile of something which looks like siding sits in the back yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company was sent an order to abate and then an order to attend the latest board meeting; both were ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey can’t seem to grasp that we need to do inspections,\u201d Witte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remarking that the neighbors \u201chave had to look at this pile of rubbish long enough,\u201d Witte asked for and was granted permission to have the property cleaned up, with the bill going to Fixed Pads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
