Recent graduating classes of athletes from Adams Central High School have, like many small schools, had to bide their time as freshmen and sophomores before the classes ahead of them graduate, opening up a spot for new faces to shine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was certainly true in Monroe last school year as Ryan Tester went from occasional substitute as a sophomore in three sports to an absolute star as a junior.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now it is Tester\u2019s turn to be the leader. The voice. The stud.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLeadership in this senior class will be a big reason why we are successful,\u201d says AC head football coach Michael Mosser, \u201cand a lack of leadership will be why we are not. Ryan is a big part of that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mosser seemed to hit a home run every time he called  Tester\u2019s number last season as the junior ran for nearly 600 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. He made ten catches for 174 yards and two scores through the air and continued to be a threat to score on defense with a pick-six or fumble recovery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tester also averaged 26 yards on kickoff returns, something Mosser expects to be essential in close games in 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe kicking game is always important for a good team and it is something this team must excel at,\u201d says Mosser, whose team employs a run-heavy offense, making starting field position essential. \u201cA lot of our skill guys are coming back. Ryan is essential to get the big returns we need to set up the offense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jets take pride in their special teams plays and expect a big year on kick returns. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Mosser expects to have a good blocking team on special teams, opening the running lanes and gaps for Tester.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am looking for us to do some great things on special teams this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tester\u2019s success on the hardwood last year came after he recovered from a postseason football injury and rolled over into the baseball season.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe is naturally gifted and does work hard at the sports he is involved in,\u201c says Mosser of his star senior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coach anticipates making no changes to where Tester plays this season for the Jets, allowing him to thrive in the role he built for himself last season. The senior will start at wing back in the Adams Central offense and at outside linebacker on the other side of the ball. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
