Organizers of the fourth annual TJC Wiffleball Tournament held in Decatur in mid-July have hailed the event as a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event honors three young Decatur men who lost their lives in a tragic traffic accident on June 7, 2020: Trevor Ortiz, Jordan Fuelling, and Connor Brite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is headed up by a committee of friends of the three, along with the three families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s goal was to raise $10,000 and that number was topped with a total of $12,360.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proceeds go to the Adams County Community Foundation for annual scholarships in the names of the three young men, along with renovations at Hanna-Nuttman Park, where the wiffleball tournament is held and where the three played as youngsters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fifteen teams competed. The team of Mason Burkholder, Corey Miller, Jon Ruble, Colin Mills, Parker Bates, Brady Manis, Luke Strickler, Aaron Lehrman, Payton Boyd, and Tyler Bauer were champs for the third time in four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all, the event had 15 Gold sponsors at $500 apiece and seven Silver sponsors at $250 each. \u201cThere were many other generous donations as well. The committee would like to sincerely thank these sponsors and donors,\u201d the organizers said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The committee’s statement also said: \u201cWe would also like to thank the volunteers the day of the event: Those helping with food, shirts, registering teams, announcing, and umping. Once again, thanks to Sport Form for making the shirts in such a short period of time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLastly, thanks to all who played or came to support the cause, even though there was uncertainty with the weather! The rainy day ended with beautiful sunshine!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another benefit event, a golf outing, is scheduled for Saturday, August 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
