{"id":4165,"date":"2023-07-11T17:01:20","date_gmt":"2023-07-11T21:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=4165"},"modified":"2023-07-11T17:01:22","modified_gmt":"2023-07-11T21:01:22","slug":"a-future-without-glyphosate-local-farmers-would-face-increased-costs-says-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/07\/11\/a-future-without-glyphosate-local-farmers-would-face-increased-costs-says-study\/","title":{"rendered":"A future without glyphosate? &#8211; Local farmers would face increased costs, says study"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MEGHAN GREBNER<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Brownfield Ag News<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new study from Aimpoint Research finds that the loss of the widely used herbicide glyphosate would be costly to farmers, the economy, and the environment.&nbsp; The global strategic intelligence firm released the report \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aimpointresearch.com\/news-insights\/a-future-without-glyphosate\">A Future Without Glyphosate<\/a>\u201d in early July 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aimpoint Research Chief Operations Officer Colonel\u00a0<em>(retired)<\/em>\u00a0Mark Purdy says if glyphosate was no longer available many farmers indicated they would turn to tillage for weed control. \u201cWhat a tool glyphosate has been for farmers and conservation practices,\u201d he says.\u00a0 \u201cEspecially minimum till no-till cover cropping and really the ability to cover crop and double crop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.adamshospital.org\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"376\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/0782-1050-AdamsAnniversary-Ad-3.4x2-PRINT.jpg?resize=640%2C376\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-765\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/0782-1050-AdamsAnniversary-Ad-3.4x2-PRINT.jpg?w=1020&amp;ssl=1 1020w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/0782-1050-AdamsAnniversary-Ad-3.4x2-PRINT.jpg?resize=300%2C176&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/0782-1050-AdamsAnniversary-Ad-3.4x2-PRINT.jpg?resize=768%2C452&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ag analyst Dave Juday with the Juday Group says there would also be economic impacts for farmers.&nbsp; \u201cThe alternatives are about 2 to 2 1\/2 times as expensive per acre as an input for weed control,\u201d he says.
