A bit of shock turned to smiles for Decatur Wastewater Superintendent Karey Fuelling and Commonwealth Engineering Project Manager Ben Adams during Wednesday’s meeting of the Decatur Board of Works and Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were seated before the board when the first of two bids on a project to replace the wastewater treatment plant’s sewer 001 outfall to the St. Marys River was opened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first estimate, from Ottenweller Construction, amounted to $449,005 \u2013 far over Adams’ estimate for the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good news came with the opening of the second of just two bids, $199,074 from Fleming Excavating, a local firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat one’s right about on the estimate,\u201d a smiling Adams (photo) told the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, the two bids were taken under advisement for a deeper evaluation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board did give Fuelling the okay to proceed with a project to replace an electrical panel at the North Cross Creek lift station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was installed in 2005 and \u201cis getting near the end\u201d of its life span, Fuelling told the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two similar bids were submitted for the project, from Parks Enterprises and American Pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuelling recommending going with the $12,550 bid submitted by American Pump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
