A total of $11,600 has been raised in the first week and a half of a park board fundraiser to completely redo South Ward Park in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber announced that total at the latest city council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of $50,000 needs to be raised in 60 days to match a $50,000 grant from the CreatINg Places program of the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority (IHCDA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the $50,000 is raised locally, the grant will be approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery dollar counts so please donate whatever you are able to so we can make this park a reality,\u201d Gerber said in making the announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plans call for the park to become an inclusive and multi-sport area for youngsters and families \u201cof all abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business sponsorships are offered in sums of $250, $500, $1,000, $2,000, $5,000 and $10,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plans call for an all-sports field that includes soccer and volleyball. A concrete basketball court already exists at the park on Winchester St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park will be fenced in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WILL FIT: In a recent Facebook, the parks department said there have been some questions about whether the park will fit in the space at South Ward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis park may look smaller but actually will fit every item we have planned,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
