{"id":39533,"date":"2026-09-10T14:41:45","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T18:41:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=39533"},"modified":"2026-09-10T14:41:46","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T18:41:46","slug":"new-peddlers-ordinance-gains-approval","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/10\/new-peddlers-ordinance-gains-approval\/","title":{"rendered":"New Peddlers&#8217; Ordinance gains approval"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decatur City Council has approved an all-new Peddlers&#8217; Ordinance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adopted at a recent meeting of council, the ordinance repeals and replaces in its entirety the ordinance which has been in place for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new ordinance deals with \u201cpeddlers and solicitors within the city\u201d and was revised in consultation with the police department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The revision \u201cprovides safety,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ordinance says the \u201crecommended change outlines a clear process, application, fee, standards of conduct, time limits for issued permits, ongoing registration requirements, and need for identification of individuals and entities desiring to market and sell goods and services on a door-to-door basis, which embraces and strengthens transparency to provide a greater degree of public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BUDGET BUMP: Clerk-Treasurer Eran Hackman reported to council at the same meeting that two line items have been added to the 2027 budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One is for $400,000 for \u201can unnamed large project\u201d and the other is for $36,500 and deals with lane mileage distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The additions will still keep next year&#8217;s budget well under a 1% increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Announced at the previous meeting, the &#8217;27 figure was set at $14,690,530, then a .76% hike over the current $14,579.622.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Decatur City Council has approved an all-new Peddlers&#8217; Ordinance.
