{"id":39182,"date":"2026-09-02T19:39:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T23:39:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=39182"},"modified":"2026-09-02T19:39:28","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T23:39:28","slug":"huge-water-project-about-to-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/02\/huge-water-project-about-to-roll\/","title":{"rendered":"Huge water project about to roll"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work in two areas is expected to begin next week as a massive water project gets rolling in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utilities Director Erin Heyerly passed the word to city council at its meeting Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project actually is divided into four projects, or phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"321\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Truck-street.jpg?resize=640%2C321&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39183\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Truck-street.jpg?w=1014&amp;ssl=1 1014w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Truck-street.jpg?resize=300%2C150&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Truck-street.jpg?resize=768%2C385&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Finding lead service lines<br><br><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two starting next week are in the area of Seventh St. to Second St., and the other from Canterbury Drive in the Winchester Estates subdivision to Tiger&#8217;s Tail in the Meadows at Cross Creek \u2013 both at the northwest edge of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is inevitable that some streets and yards may be torn up, but the companies doing the work will use boring whenever possible, it was noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The federally-mandated, $17 million project is being funded through 35-year bonds and it designed to replace approximately1,000 lead service lines<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also, more than a thousand very-old water mains will be replaced as the overall project is expected to continue into next summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the four contractors that will be doing the work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VTF Excavation, Celina, Ohio; Yarberry Companies, Anderson; S&amp;S Directional Boring, Bryan, Ohio, and Watson Excavating of Redkey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, FWS (Fluid Waste Services) of Noblesville is traversing Decatur and checking water lines to determine if they are made of lead or copper.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The effort is done outside.
