{"id":39130,"date":"2026-08-31T15:14:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-31T19:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=39130"},"modified":"2026-08-31T15:14:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-31T19:14:23","slug":"decatur-water-tower-to-get-fresh-coat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/08\/31\/decatur-water-tower-to-get-fresh-coat\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur water tower to get fresh coat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decatur&#8217;s north water tower, situated in Waterworks Park, is getting some needed maintenance work which will be followed, likely next summer, by a new paint job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City Street\/Sanitation Superintendent Matt Schultz told the city&#8217;s board of works and safety at its latest meeting that Dixon Engineering has been doing various forms of maintenance and upkeep on the tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dixon is an Odessa, Michigan, firm that handles engineering and inspections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Schultz asked for and was given permission to secure a deal with Dixon to have it take bids for the painting work and hire a contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt has been a long time, at least 20 years or maybe more\u201d since the tower \u2013 located near the city swimming pool \u2013 last received some major upkeep and a fresh coat of paint, Schultz noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decatur has three water towers, the other two being located at Piqua Road and E. Monroe St., and off Line St. near Studebaker St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"403\" height=\"790\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Water-tower-north.jpg?resize=403%2C790&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Water-tower-north.jpg?w=403&amp;ssl=1 403w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Water-tower-north.jpg?resize=153%2C300&amp;ssl=1 153w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 403px) 100vw, 403px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NEED FIRE TRUCK? On another matter, the board approved a resolution declaring the city fire department&#8217;s 1997 aerial truck \u201csurplus property.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That means it can be put up for sale.
