{"id":3911,"date":"2023-06-30T16:56:49","date_gmt":"2023-06-30T20:56:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3911"},"modified":"2023-06-30T17:01:45","modified_gmt":"2023-06-30T21:01:45","slug":"monday-is-deadline-to-file-candidates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/30\/monday-is-deadline-to-file-candidates\/","title":{"rendered":"Monday is deadline to file candidates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the deadline for filling ballot vacancies quickly approaching, local Republicans have a full Decatur ballot with one exception: no candidate for mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local Democrats, meanwhile, have two Decatur city council ballot vacancies as well as that of clerk-treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Kukelhan-bc-artwork-for-website-2303-1024x585.jpg?resize=475%2C270\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-213\" width=\"475\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Kukelhan-bc-artwork-for-website-2303.jpg?resize=1024%2C585&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Kukelhan-bc-artwork-for-website-2303.jpg?resize=300%2C171&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Kukelhan-bc-artwork-for-website-2303.jpg?w=1050&amp;ssl=1 1050w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>By law, following the May primaries, if parties do not have candidates for certain offices, they have until noon on Monday, July 3, to fell those vacancies by \u201cslating\u201d candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of Thursday&#8217;s closing of the clerk&#8217;s office, Republicans had the one remaining opening on their Decatur ballot and Democrats had three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Republicans filled their city council ballot Thursday with the filing of Leslie Reilly-Green (photo).
