{"id":3878,"date":"2023-06-29T09:01:06","date_gmt":"2023-06-29T13:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3878"},"modified":"2023-06-29T09:01:08","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T13:01:08","slug":"code-enforcement-driven-by-complaints","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/29\/code-enforcement-driven-by-complaints\/","title":{"rendered":"Code enforcement driven by complaints"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese are driven by complaints (from neighbors),\u201d Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe don&#8217;t go looking for them,\u201d added Building\/Zoning Superintendent, Curt Witte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were referring to the city&#8217;s ongoing battle to abate dilapidated buildings, high weeds and grass, junk items around homes, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The comments came after the latest report from Witte and assistant Brad Roe, whose department is in charge of enforcing city codes, at a meeting of the board of works and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aired for the first time was an apartment house at 233 N. Fourth St. (see photo) owned by Adam Eguia of Decatur. Weeds and vegetation have been a problem and the building is in bad shape, according to Witte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some progress is made, then it stops, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The board decided to send Eguia a notice giving him10 days to make some clear improvements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adam Ross was given seven days to clean up a property at 127 Fremont Lane; if nothing is done, or not enough, the city will do a cleanup and bill Ross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several abatement orders have been sent to Ross, \u201cbut we&#8217;ve heard nothing from him,\u201d Witte said.
