Decatur is a growing community, its population number having recently topped 10,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just barely \u2013 barely! \u2013 growing, however, is its budget for next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was unveiled by Clerk-Treasurer Eran Hackman at Tuesday night’s city council meeting that the 2027 budget will see an increase of less than 1% \u2013 .76% to be exact!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The budget number which will be proposed to the state’s Department of Local Government Finance (DLGC) is $14,690,530. The city’s current budget is $14,579,622.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new budget proposal includes a 3% pay raise for city employees. Health insurance will rise 5.8%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA big thank-you to all, to our department heads,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said of the small budget increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe department heads have been awesome to work with,\u201d added Hackman, who spent considerable time crafting their individual budgets with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is their budget; it takes all of us to do this,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
