Born on July 11, 1934, to Casper John and Margaret Cecelia (Omler) Miller, Moe spent his life rooted in faith, family, and community. He is now joyfully reunited after 27 years with the absolute love of his life, Rosanne F. Miller, whom he married on April 23, 1960.

Moe proudly answered the call to serve his country as a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to the United States Postal Service, where he worked faithfully retiring in 1999. A proud and loyal union member, Moe celebrated an incredible 55-year milestone with the National Association of Letter Carriers Union. For many years, he served as the “swing” carrier, expertly navigating a different city route daily with a friendly smile for everyone he met. To provide for his growing family, Moe was no stranger to hard work, often balancing his postal career with part-time jobs at the Duo boat factory and Schwan’s, where he loaded the refrigerated delivery trucks each night. In their later years, Moe and Rosie brought boundless joy to local families, beautifully serving as Santa and Mrs. Claus for the annual Decatur Post Office Christmas gift service project.

Together, Moe and Rosie spent their lives building a warm, welcoming home for their family on Jackson Street in Decatur. Their life goals were beautifully simple: to raise their seven children to be kind,

generous, productive, and upstanding citizens. Though neither Moe nor Rosie had the opportunity to obtain college education themselves, it was deeply important to them that all their children did. They took immense pride in watching their children use those educations to step out into the world and actively make it a better place for future generations.

A lifelong, devout member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Moe lived his faith through

active service, carrying on a deep family legacy of dedication to the parish. His parents provided a generous donation toward the building of the current church, a contribution permanently recognized in the beautiful Saint Elizabeth-stained glass window. Following in their footsteps of devotion, Moe was an early leader of the local Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes, shaping the faith of community youth, and served compassionately as a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound. He was also a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, serving as the organization’s treasurer for many years.

He is survived by his seven children: Amy Wozniak of Greenwood, IN; Meg Copeland of Indianapolis,

IN; Nick (Laura) Miller of Carmel, IN; Germaine (John) Broxon of Owensboro, KY, Lucy Miller, Greenwood, IN, Alex (Mindy) Miller, of Canton, MI and Vic (Annemarie) Miller of Ankeny, IA. He also

leaves behind 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Thomas (Carol) Vodde of Fort

Wayne, IN; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members

Moe was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 39 years, Rosanne; two sons-in-law,

Chuck Vest and Wally Wozniak; and his siblings, William Miller, Leo Miller, Joan Hawbaker, Margaret Miller (in infancy), and Marlene Miller (Sr. LaVerne, CSA).

Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 18, 2026, at the Adams Woodcrest Chapel from 10:00am to 12:00Noon,

A 1:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church,

Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur. Fr. Jacob Runyon will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adams Woodcrest through Haggard Hirschy and Zelt Funeral Home.

Maurice H. “Moe” Miller passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Adams Woodcrest, arriving full

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[8
23
post-38182","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-obituaries","tag-obit
["GET
