{"id":37923,"date":"2026-07-31T11:58:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T15:58:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=37923"},"modified":"2026-07-31T11:58:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T15:58:09","slug":"macklin-bridge-in-decatur-is-reopened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/31\/macklin-bridge-in-decatur-is-reopened\/","title":{"rendered":"Macklin Bridge in Decatur is reopened"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just in time for the start of school \u2013 the bridge is open!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the beginning of the 2026-27 school year just days away, the Wendell Macklin Bridge on Monroe St. (and US 224) in Decatur was reopened on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bridge was closed April 27 and, at that time, it was speculated that the rehabilitation project could continue through the end of August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"195\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Macklin-bridge-open.jpg?resize=640%2C195&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37924\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Macklin-bridge-open.jpg?w=660&amp;ssl=1 660w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Macklin-bridge-open.jpg?resize=300%2C91&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brooks Construction of Fort Wayne, however, was able to complete the work ahead of schedule!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project involved a bridge deck overlay, a protective layer applied to repair damage and extend the bridge&#8217;s life, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reopening, however, brought a new, albeit brief, problem. The traffic light at Monroe and First streets, which was altered to flashing during the project, did not return to normalcy \u2013 with east-west traffic being held up for as much as five minutes on a red light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City police directed traffic for a time while INDOT crews were notified and restored normal operation of the traffic signal by around 9:15 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB SHRALUKA WZBD.com Just in time for the start of school \u2013 the bridge is open!
