{"id":37788,"date":"2026-07-17T13:05:39","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T17:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=37788"},"modified":"2026-07-17T13:05:40","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T17:05:40","slug":"decatur-officials-hail-county-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/17\/decatur-officials-hail-county-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur officials hail county decision"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decatur officials are ecstatic over Adams County&#8217;s decision to keep two courts and a new \u201cjustice center\u201d downtown, and are ready to assist seeking a solution to a problem the county&#8217;s decision might bring about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think it&#8217;s great for our downtown, great for foot traffic,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord said at the latest council meeting, referring to the final decision made by the county commissioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That decision will see superior court joining circuit court in the courthouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, five county departments are likely to be shifted into a \u201cjustice center\u201d to be constructed in the downtown area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That might mean the loss of the county-owned parking lot near the current superior court building (old library).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyway, county officials are asking city officials to assist in seeking an area or areas where a new parking lot could be constructed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-17-130304.png?resize=640%2C329&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37789\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-17-130304.png?resize=1024%2C527&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-17-130304.png?resize=300%2C154&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-17-130304.png?resize=768%2C395&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Screenshot-2026-07-17-130304.png?w=1277&amp;ssl=1 1277w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe (county) commissioners are asking for a degree of support,\u201d City Attorney Anne Razo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That support was readily offered after some discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Councilman Matt Dyer said, \u201cI would encourage county council to fund this.
