The band’s logo says, \u201cWhoa, Man, saluting the women of rock and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band saluted in a major way on the Madison St. Plaza in Decatur Thursday, with nearly three full hours of hard rock and some softer stuff as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seven-person band \u2013 including a Decatur native \u2013 brought out a crowd that filled the plaza for Whoa, Man’s second appearance in the Decatur Chamber’s summer concert series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A couple of brief sprinkles were no major deterrence for the enthusiastic crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band is out of Fort Wayne and leads with four women up front: Nevera, Teresa, Suny and Karis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their music \u2013 Bananarama to Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks to Heart, Belinda Carlisle to even Nancy Sinatra (who could forget \u201cThese Boots are Made for Walking\u201d?) \u2013 kept the dance area in front of the stage busy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also gave forth with \u201cTotal Eclipse of the Heart,\u201d honoring Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh singer who had died just a few hours earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The foursome is backed by Mike Grant on drums, Allen Smith on lead guitar, and Decatur-born Peter Jacobs on bass guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When introduced to the crowd, the son of Steve Jacobs of Decatur and Candy Jacobs of Fort Wayne mentioned how \u201cI used to ride my bike on these streets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His grandfather, Louis Jacobs, was the owner of Holthouse Drug Co. in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the audience was his father Steve’s sister, Jane Jacobs Caffee, who served up more than a few lunches at the Holthouse Drug counter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The night’s only downbeat was a woman who had to be taken from the plaza by EMS after reportedly becoming overcome by heat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
