On Friday July 10, 2026 the Adams County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to a serious Personal Injury single vehicle crash on US 224 near the Ohio State Line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerald E Haynes, age 52 of Gibraltar, Michigan, was operating a loaded box type truck, eastbound on US 224. For an unknown reason, evidence at the scene shows that the box truck left the south side of the paved roadway and began traveling on the stone berm. The truck then abruptly veered to the north, back onto the pavement where marks indicate that the driver possibly overcorrected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The truck then crossed the westbound lane of traffic and left the roadway a second time, off of the north side of US 224 The truck entered a steep side ditch where it rolled onto it\u2019s side, causing the contents to spill from the container truck. In rolling over, the truck also destroyed a tree and a power pole in the front yard of a residence.
Decatur Fire, Monroe Fire, Monroe Rescue, Adams EMS and Lutheran Air Crew all worked to free Gerald as he was entrapped in the cab of the truck. Upon being freed from the wreckage, Gerald was assessed at the scene by medics and flown by Lutheran Air to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office was also assisted at the scene by; Indiana State Police DOT Division, Adams County EMA, American Electric Power and Piqua Repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
