{"id":37654,"date":"2026-07-05T15:59:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T19:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=37654"},"modified":"2026-07-05T15:59:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T19:59:21","slug":"decatur-project-gets-incredible-bids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/05\/decatur-project-gets-incredible-bids\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur project gets \u201cincredible bids\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four contracts totaling just over $17 million have been awarded by the City of Decatur as it moves ever closer to the start of a huge water project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone involved in the federally-mandated project was pleased with the bids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese were incredible bids on all four projects (the overall project has been divided into four phases),\u201d Engineer\/Consultant Ben Adams told city council at its recent meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All four were under cost estimates provided by engineers, according to Adams, project manager with Commonwealth Engineering of Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Main-break-2.jpg?resize=640%2C488&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37655\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Main-break-2.jpg?resize=1024%2C780&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Main-break-2.jpg?resize=300%2C228&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Main-break-2.jpg?resize=768%2C585&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Main-break-2.jpg?w=1282&amp;ssl=1 1282w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The contracts:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">VTF Excavation, Celina, Ohio, $2,615,839.20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yarberry Companies, Anderson, $3,272,890.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S&amp;S Directional Boring, Bryan, Ohio,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">$3,390,000.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Watson Excavating, Redkey, $7,185,925.00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The four total $17,189,529<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In all, a total of 19 bids were received for the four phases. The four selected were the lowest bids in that particular phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the under-estimate bids and a financial plan reworked by Adams, even more lead service lines then were originally identified<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">are now targeted. At least1,000 lines will be replaced, according to Adams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, too, will over a thousand aged water mains be removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project is being funded through 35-year bonds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project could begin this month.
