{"id":37509,"date":"2026-06-17T15:37:53","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T19:37:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=37509"},"modified":"2026-06-17T15:37:55","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T19:37:55","slug":"brite-retires-loshe-to-assume-position","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/06\/17\/brite-retires-loshe-to-assume-position\/","title":{"rendered":"Brite retires; Loshe to assume position"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Derek Loshe is Decatur&#8217;s new deputy police chief, replacing veteran officer Chris Brite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement was made at Tuesday night&#8217;s meeting of the city&#8217;s board of works and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Loshe joined the Decatur department in October of 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brite has moved up the city PD&#8217;s ranks through a standout career of 32 years \u2013 or, 32 years, 2 months and 13 days, he wrote in a resignation letter to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brite, Police Chief Kevin Gerber said, \u201cis one of the most loyal, dedicated men I know. This community will never know the sacrifices he&#8217;s made to keep this community safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A resolution extolling Brite&#8217;s virtues as an officer and as a community leader was read at the city council meeting which followed the board&#8217;s meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"617\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Chris-Brite-at-council.jpg?resize=640%2C617&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37510\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Chris-Brite-at-council.jpg?w=876&amp;ssl=1 876w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Chris-Brite-at-council.jpg?resize=300%2C289&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Chris-Brite-at-council.jpg?resize=768%2C740&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Chris Brite at Tuesday&#8217;s council meeting<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Brite was at the meeting and as he rose, he received a standing ovation from a packed City Hall chambers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his resignation letter, Brite said: \u201cServing as a police officer and protecting the citizens of Decatur, Indiana has been a privilege. I am grateful for the unwavering support I have received from my fellow officers, department leadership and the community throughout my career.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe camaraderie, shared hardships and triumphs I have experienced with this department are memories I will carry with me forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The veteran officer added: \u201cThank you for your leadership, guidance and the opportunity to serve alongside such a dedicated group of professionals.
