One of Decatur’s most popular warm-weather events, Connor Brite’s Wildflowers benefit, will be held Saturday \u2026 and this year will have a different twist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four young people who have completed the free Wildflowers music program, will perform to kick off what will be the fifth annual event on the Madison St. Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And that’s not all. Students from the Fort Wayne-based School of Rock will perform, as well the Sunglasses at Night band, which debuted in Decatur last fall during the Summer Concert Series and is scheduled for a repeat performance in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maddison Young, Nakoma Setili, Agustin Sponseller and Karsen Combs \u2013 whom organizers call \u201cOur Wildflowers\u201d \u2013 will take to the stage from 6 to 6:30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have completed the Wildflowers music program, which provides free lessons in keyboard, guitar and drumming for Adams County students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School of Rock will entertain from 6:45 to 7:45, followed by Sunglasses at Night from 8-10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food and drink will be available from the American Legion post, Cindi’s Kitchen, Andy’s Coneys, Soda House and 2 Pour Guys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No admission will be charged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T-shirts and water will be on sale and pre-ordered shirts can be picked up at the main tent at the concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year’s shirt honors the Tom Petty Wildflowers CD, the shirt colors reflecting the CD’s color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organizers said that in the event of inclement, the event will moved to the local K of C pavilion \u2013 which happened last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FREE LESSONS: The concert, of course, raises funds for the Connor Brite’s Wildflowers music program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connor’s parents, Jeff and Steph Brite, his sister, Allie, family members and friends, started the free lessons program to honor Connor, who loved Tom Petty’s \u201cWildflowers\u201d album.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lessons are provided by volunteers in a room leased at the MERIT Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over 100 Adams County young people in grades 4 through 12 have completed the program which provides individual, introductory lessons in keyboard, guitar and drumming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SIX YEARS: Last Sunday marked the sixth anniversary of the tragedy which suddenly snuffed out the lives of three Decatur young men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connor Brite, Trevor Ortiz and Jordan Fuelling \u2013 all in their early 20s \u2013 were killed by an impaired driver in a traffic accident in Union County, Indiana, on June 7, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
