The Woodlan Warriors rounded out their ACAC slate with a 12-2 victory over Heritage Tuesday night to move to 5-1 in the conference. They’ll await the result of South Adams and Jay County and hope that the Starfires can stop the juggernaut Patriots and force a three-way tie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lucy McHenry struck out eight, holding the Patriots to just two runs to earn the victory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Woodlan walked it off with the help of the run rule in the sixth on Scarlet Gillingham’s two-run single. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heritage got their two runs in the second inning, both on a double by Teaghen O’Shaughnessey, helping the visitors stake an early advantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
McHenry did not allow another hit until O’Shaughnessey came up again in the fifth and hit another double. She was stranded, though, as the Woodlan hurler set the last six batters faced down in a row. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addie Bacon started for Heritage, but errors sabotaged her pitching performance and she was replaced by Hadlee Shipp in the middle of the Warriors’ five-run third inning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shipp also fell victim to the unearned run, with five of her six runs charged as unearned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Patriots will prepare for their sectional opener against neighboring Bellmont by playing NE8 teams DeKalb and Huntington North to end this week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
