Wayne to regional schools \/ students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce that McMillen Health Center in Ft. Wayne was recently awarded a grant to provide preventive health education sessions to Adams County students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nicole Fairchild, executive director, reports that McMillen Health presents a variety of classes that teach general health, nutrition and fitness, drug, alcohol, and tobacco prevention, brush-oral health education, social and emotional health, human growth, and development. Youth programs are available in Adams County\u2019s classrooms through outreach, online with interactive distance learning, prerecorded for weather related closures via E-Learning and at the McMillen Health Center for field trips. The programs align with Indiana and National Academic Standards and measure student knowledge gained.\u00a0Fairchild added that this grant provided preventive health education program sessions to 75+ Adams County youth in grades preschool to 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lettie Haver, McMillen Health grant writer, expressed appreciation to the ACCF for the support to help Adams County students learn about living a healthier lifestyle. Lettie also noted that McMillen Health Center has served 45,289 Adams County youth since 1994.\u00a0Kenny Ketzler, ACCF Board member and grants committee member, reported that ACCF is pleased to assist McMillen Health facility with funding that will provide instruction to Adams County students.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ACCF grant was made possible through an unrestricted fund sponsored by the Victor &amp; Kristine Porter and Wayne &amp; Karen Porter Community Enrichment funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Victor B. &amp; Kristine Porter Community Enrichment Fund was established in 2002.\u00a0The Porters wanted to give back to a community that has been so good to them and their family. Victor and Kristine (Striker) Porter were born in Adams County, graduated from Decatur High School and married in 1950.\u00a0They were involved in businesses employing hundreds of local people along with raising their six children, supporting church endeavors and contributing to the success of local projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wayne &amp; Karen Porter Community Enrichment Fund was established in 2006.\u00a0 Wayne graduated from Indiana University with a BS degree in Business Administration.\u00a0Karen attended IPFW where she completed her undergraduate and Masters Degrees from Indiana University for Elementary Education with a Kindergarten Endorsement.\u00a0Wayne Porter, former ACCF Board president, is Vice President of Sales for Thunderbird while Karen is a retired teacher from St. Joseph School in Decatur. This fund will provide an annual grant for programs that support youth, family, and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>More about the ACCF:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>For nonprofit organizations serving Adams County residents, the next grant cycle due date is: Wednesday, July 12, 2023. For graduating high school seniors wishing to apply for the Lilly scholarship through the ACCF, this due date will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 by 4:00 p.m.\u00a0For current college students, the next due date is Wed., November 1, 2023 (students can apply only once per calendar year).
