business success stories had its tax abatements renewed by city council at its latest meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keith Gerber, owner-operator of Hoosier Pattern Inc., was on hand for the meeting as council looked over his CF-1 form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A CF-1 form, or Compliance with Statement of Benefits, is an Indiana tax form used by companies to annually report their progress in meeting investment and job creation goals to maintain tax abatements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"475\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Keith-Gerber-at-council.jpg?resize=640%2C475&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36845\" actual project results against the estimates provided in the original SB-1 form and must be filed between January 1 and May 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There was no problem in council giving Hoosier Pattern&#8217;s abatements renewed approval \u2013 with a pat or two on the back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since the 10th St. company requested the abatements \u2013 for real property investment and personal property investment\u2013 its number of employees has grown from 45 to 78!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"555\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Hoosier-Pattern-sign-on-bldg.jpg?resize=555%2C358&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36847\" https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Hoosier-Pattern-sign-on-bldg.jpg?resize=300%2C194&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Also from the first granting of abatements, Hoosier Pattern&#8217;s annual payroll has increased from $2 million to $3.7 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are blessed to be in Decatur and things (business) are real strong for us,\u201d Gerber told council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoosier Pattern has become widely known for its 3D sand printing and foundry tooling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sand printing, Gerber told council last year, \u201cis 60% to 70% of my business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The company started in 1997 with three owner-employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tax abatements are awarded on a sliding scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a 10-year abatement, no taxes are paid the first year, then the sliding scale kicks in: a 90% tax savings the second year, then 80% and so on through 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For a five-year abatement, the increments are 20% each year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By BOB
