Jack Schultz’s 3-for-3 afternoon and an outstanding start by Layne LeMaster were not enough to give the Bellmont Braves a victory in seven innings Saturday against Huntington North. Instead, a bad day got worse as the team dropped their second game of the day, this time in extra innings, falling 3-2 to the Vikes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vikings got to LeMaster early, scoring a singular run in the first and the third, but he settled in after that, facing just one more than the minimum in the fourth through the seventh innings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Braves countered those two early runs with a big rally in the fifth, but it probably should have yielded more than just a game-tying two runs. The home team, who had dropped a heartbreaker earlier in the afternoon in the final inning against Wayne, started the bottom of the fifth with five straight hits. That loaded the bases, but Huntington North limited the damage with two strikeouts, leaving the game tied at 2-2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schultz’s third hit of the afternoon led off the bottom of the seventh, but after Jayden Springer bunted Schultz over, the Braves were unable to find the walk-off hit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That took the game into extras. LeMaster, running out of pitches, got the first out, but allowed a hit to right. Huntington North forced the issue and tried to swipe a bag, but Oliver Werling gunned down the runner for the second out. The next batter then hit another single to right, then successfully stole second as LeMaster reached the pitch count to make Tyler Williams his final batter of the afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Williams doubled in the eventual winning run and LeMaster had to exit the game. Dan Selking got out of the inning with just two pitches, but the Braves were unable to score in the bottom of the eighth, falling to 0-4 in the NE8 in 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
