An antenna leaning over the Decatur Fire Department is going to be replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The radio antenna, which has continued to operate, came partially down in early March during one of Decatur’s seemingly frequent high winds. It also damaged some of the building’s gutters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire Chief Jeff Sheets asked the city’s board of works and safety at its recent meeting for permission to pay the $25,000 deductible on an insurance policy and was given the okay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Insurance will cover the $75,000 cost to replace the 50-foot antenna, along with repairs of some damaged gutter repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The board also gave Sheets the go-ahead on having repairs made to a roof at the fire department building. The roof is nearing 25 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chief also informed the board that a recent storm brought damage to Safety Village, near Worthman Field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the small buildings was flattened by a falling tree and another suffered damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Damage was estimated at $5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OPENING: The board gave the chief approval to begin the hiring process a paid-on-call firefighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A replacement is needed as Landon Hummer recently resigned, citing the need to have more time with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
