Derek Weaver doubled and drove in four runs for a three-hit night as he provided the offense and Jax Wanner took care of the pitching Monday night for a satisfying 8-3 win at home against Canterbury. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Adams responded to a cheap Canterbury run in the top of the first (on a passed ball) with a run while Weaver was at the plate. The first baseman then came around and scored on Brendon Sprunger’s RBI single. The Starfires never relinquished the lead after that. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week it was Jax Wanner playing first base with Derek Weaver on the mound, but Monday night it was the reverse, with Weaver knocking in four runs and Wanner picking up the W. (Archive Photo)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Wanner got into a groove after that, finishing with three runs allowed in a five-inning outing while striking out four. He allowed just four hits and worked around four base on balls on his way to a 100-pitch night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weaver also started the rally in the bottom of the second inning for coach Buckingham’s team, singling to left with the bases loaded to drive in two more. That rally gave SA a 5-1 lead after two innings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weaver’s double in the fifth gave the game its final tally at 8-3. He knocked in Sty Pyle and Kyle Minger with another hard-hit ball to left field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kade Sprunger pitched the sixth and ultimately, final inning (due to rain), setting the Cavs down in order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
