Werling Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Center recently brought some of its friends for a visit with Independent Living residents at Woodcrest Retirement Center in Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the visitors were Katharsis, a turkey vulture; Shawnee, a red-tailed hawk; and Pickle, an opossum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur Independent Living residents had a wonderful time learning about some of the animals we often think of as ‘pests’ during a special visit…,\u201d noted a Woodcrest post on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThank you for sharing your knowledge \u2013 and your amazing animals \u2013 with our community. It was such a fun AND educational presentation and our residents truly enjoyed every moment!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Werling Wildlife Rehabilitation, a non-profit organization located on Winchester Road north of Decatur, is an Indiana Department of Natural Resources Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization takes in injured and orphaned opossums, rabbits, skunks, turtles, muskrats, groundhogs, squirrels, foxes, otters, beavers, and raptors (birds of prey such as hawks, owls, vultures; typically, not other birds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FUNDRAISER: Werling Wildlife Rehab has a major fundraiser coming up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organization will host Grow With Us Gala on Thursday, April 23, 6-9 p.m., at the Venue at Charlie’s Place, 4201 N. Wells St. in Fort Wayne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among items in a silent auction will be helicopter rides from Sweet Aviation, an evening of fund at Combat Ops Entertainment, dinner and games at Crazy Pinz Entertainment Center, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening also will include animal encounters, food, adult beverages, and programming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou’re not just buying a ticket, you’re making a difference and directly saving lives,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
