The South Adams Starfires opened up their baseball season Thursday at Union City, and came away with a 10-0 six-inning no-hit victory over the Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After scoring on an error in the first, South Adams added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Union City committed an error, a dropped third strike. Zaden Baumer then singled to center field, later scoring on a wild pitch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two more Starfire runs crossed the plate in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 7-0. Derek Weaver hit a solo home run to center field, and Baumer drew a bases loaded walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jax Wanner earned the win for the Starfires. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking one. Kade Sprunger and Weaver each came on in relief and shut down the Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up for the Starfires (1-0) will be their home opener Saturday, weather permitting, as they host Coldwater beginning at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
