A project born in a Bellmont High School class has raised over $2,400 for the care of the Decatur Police Department’s K9 officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also benefiting were numerous residents of Adams Woodcrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the students’ Koza Koda fundraiser, a total of 350 plush dogs in a Decatur PD wrap were sold in a short time, with proceeds to be used to support Koda, the department’s K9 who spends his days at Bellmont with School Resource Officer (SRO) Andrew Elwell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students in Bryan Lineberry Principles of Business Management class launched the project with the purchase of 100 of the plush dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were made available to the public at a minimum donation of $20 and were snatched up within three days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So another 250 were ordered and they, too, were sold in a short time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 143 of the plushies were delivered by students to residents of the Health Center and Memory Care Center at Woodcrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit also included members of the police department, including Koda, a three-year-old Golden Retriever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Porter Family Foundation (Formula Boats), Hoosier Pattern and Adams Memorial Hospital partnered with the students to make the miniature Kodas available to the residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Grady Baker headed up the Kozy Koda initiative for the class of 18 students, mostly sophomores and a few seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lineberry issued a statement: \u201cThank-you all for the incredible opportunity today! The students were humbled by the amount of support they received for this project and the opportunity to meet with the residents at Woodcrest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe collaboration highlights the power of community partnerships and the impact young leaders can make while giving back to their community,\u201d said a statement from the Porter Family Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
