{"id":3480,"date":"2023-06-15T08:20:40","date_gmt":"2023-06-15T12:20:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3480"},"modified":"2023-06-15T08:20:42","modified_gmt":"2023-06-15T12:20:42","slug":"mural-to-be-painted-on-decatur-blacktop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/15\/mural-to-be-painted-on-decatur-blacktop\/","title":{"rendered":"Mural to be painted on Decatur blacktop"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A street mural \u2013 that&#8217;s street, not building \u2013 looks to be one of the more unique aspects of Downtown Decatur Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Decatur Main Street is staging the fifth annual event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Second St. and the Madison St. Plaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the day, local artist Shelby Nower will be painting a mural (see photo) on the crosswalk between Sherwin-Williams and Monster Pizza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"111\" height=\"144\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/98.158.76.108\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Nower.jpg?resize=111%2C144\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3481\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Nower<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Nower said this week that she&#8217;s hoping to get it done in one day since traffic will be blocked off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m using three paint colors \u2013 blue, white, and yellow \u2013 and am planning to use 1-2 gallons of each, depending on how well it covers the street,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asked about the mural&#8217;s durability, Shelby said, \u201cIt&#8217;s difficult to say exactly. It&#8217;s meant to last 1-3 years, but that all relies on how much traffic the road will see, how many people walk on it, how much sun exposure it will have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A native of St. Louis who has lived in Decatur for several years, Nower is a muralist and illustrator.
