{"id":3325,"date":"2023-06-09T16:00:33","date_gmt":"2023-06-09T20:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=3325"},"modified":"2023-06-09T16:00:35","modified_gmt":"2023-06-09T20:00:35","slug":"decatur-code-enforcement-brings-some-testiness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/09\/decatur-code-enforcement-brings-some-testiness\/","title":{"rendered":"Decatur code enforcement brings some testiness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some testiness broke out on a code enforcement matter at the latest meeting of the Decatur Board of Works and Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And some less-than-civil treatment was encountered by a city official on another code enforcement issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aaron Ellis (photo) and his mother, Vickie, attended the meeting as Brad Roe of the city&#8217;s building and zoning department went over a timeline concerning the department&#8217;s interactions with the Ellises over their properties at 221 S. 12<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;St., 225 S. 12<sup>th<\/sup>, and 316 S. 11<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The properties were inspected by the department the morning of the meeting, and while some improvements had been made, some others had not, according to Roe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aaron Ellis then showed photos he had taken of some improvements he had made a few hours after the inspection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They show \u201che&#8217;s come a long way,\u201d Roe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, when Roe asked to enter a building for an inspection, Aaron Ellis gave a quick \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After some back-and-forth, Aaron Elllis mentioned something about a warrant, and said, \u201cNext time I&#8217;ll have to bring my lawyer, real classy\u201d before getting up and leaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roe said he would make another inspection the next day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kylie Harvey, who lives with her husband, William, at an 804 Schirmeyer St. home owned by Gary Myers, also attended the board meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Roe said \u201ca nice job\u201d was done on the property last year, but since then things were starting to deteriorate.
