He was a former Portland resident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/lg-4.png?resize=640%2C800&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32500\" style=\"width:227px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/lg-4.png?w=819&amp;ssl=1 819w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/lg-4.png?resize=240%2C300&amp;ssl=1 240w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/lg-4.png?resize=768%2C960&amp;ssl=1 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Chris was born July 18, 1962, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Richard and June (Allred ) Bemis. He was very active in his community, serving on Jay County Rescue 19 and the Portland Fire Department for many years. He was currently employed at Spirit Medical Transport in Greenville, Ohio. He was an active member of Anchor Church in Celina, Ohio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Survivors include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His children: Christy Gross (husband Calvin) \u2013 St. Marys, Ohio<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jason Bemis (wife Brianna) \u2013 Dunkirk, Indiana<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preston Bemis (wife Lindsey) \u2013 Monroe, Indiana<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grandchildren: Sarah, Faith, Simon, Haisley, Kason, and Judah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 3-8 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Family Worship Center, 200 E. Elder St., Portland, Indiana 47371.
