{"id":32092,"date":"2026-01-09T12:40:19","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:40:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/?p=32092"},"modified":"2026-01-09T12:40:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T17:40:21","slug":"berne-bar-to-post-a-happy-addition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wzbd.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/09\/berne-bar-to-post-a-happy-addition\/","title":{"rendered":"Berne bar to post a happy addition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By BOB SHRALUKA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>WZBD.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a remarkable irony, one that has linked a television show with a neighborhood bar in Berne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHappy&#8217;s Place\u201d on NBC follows the efforts of a woman (Reba McEntire) who carries on after inheriting a bar following the death of her father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in Berne, Kelsie Low has inherited Happy&#8217;s Place, a bar, after her father passed away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"597\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Happys-building.jpg?resize=597%2C450&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32093\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Happys-building.jpg?w=597&amp;ssl=1 597w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Happys-building.jpg?resize=300%2C226&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 597px) 100vw, 597px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While the irony is startling, there is one major difference in the stories: Reba McEntire is playing a part on TV while Kelsie Low is a nurse with a newborn who is trying to get the Berne establishment back in business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last August, Troy McMillion, passed away at the age of 73, leaving what he considered his happy place for some 25 years to his daughter, Kelsie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very mind-boggling,\u201d she told WPTA-TV, Fort Wayne. \u201cIt\u2019s crazy, you know, I\u2019m a nurse. I\u2019m not a bar manager, so it\u2019s going to be a learning process, but I\u2019m looking forward to it.\u201d While the bar in Berne remains closed, Low is putting together a management team to handle the operation and, hopefully, to soon reopen the doors to the longtime business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"526\" height=\"554\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Kelsie-Kirt.jpg?resize=526%2C554&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-32094\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Kelsie-Kirt.jpg?w=526&amp;ssl=1 526w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wzbd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Kelsie-Kirt.jpg?resize=285%2C300&amp;ssl=1 285w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 526px) 100vw, 526px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Kelsie &amp; husband Kirt<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelsie, who lives in the New Haven area, is a nurse who works for Parkview Hospice. She told WZBD.com that she has been in health care for 20 years, the last 10 as an RN, and doesn&#8217;t plan to abandon that part of her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And there has been a new complication \u2013 a very good complication! \u2013 a baby girl born in October<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd I have been focusing on family until I am ready to dive in getting the bar back up and running.
