Spring is likely to bring a new \u201cfun thing\u201d to downtown Decatur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A three-piece apparatus will be added to the Cat Alley which runs east and west along the south side of Sherwin-Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s known as Cat Alley due to the large cat sculpture which stands at the Second St. end of the alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The alley, which is 12 feet wide, has been closed to traffic for some time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apparatus was unveiled to city council at its final meeting of the year by Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart, a member of the Main Street volunteer organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBasically, it’s a toy unit for kids,\u201d Mayor Dan Rickord explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apparatus is being purchased from Midstates Recreation at a cost of $9,985.10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bulk of the cost is being picked up by the city \u2013 authorized by the board of works and safety \u2013 using facade program money left over 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When completed, the alley will also have six planters and two benches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
